Paula Scher Project

Paula Scher Project

In 2017 I took a course called Visual Design History where we were given an assignment to create a mock site (using Axure RP) for the estate of a designer from a list provided to us. I was the first one to the sign up sheet when I saw Paula Scher on the list.

Recognize any of these? The mock estate site included a works page displaying some of Scher's projects

Research

On October 30, 2017 I went to a design talk in midtown called "Design Matters LIVE: Featuring Paula Scher". It was hosted by Debbie Millman at the Museum of Design Atlanta.

At the end of the discussion a few audience members were selected to ask questions, and I was lucky enough to be chosen.

my question:

Growing up in a family that wasn't particularly supportive, did you ever question whether design was for you?

Scher's response:

I never thought it wasn't for me. The down periods help fuel the high points and facing criticism helped me grow as a designer

But wait there's more

Before they went on stage, I got to meet them AND take this selfie with terrible lighting! We briefly discussed Scher's contributions to the world of record covers. Then Paula Scher said "I like your sweater, you're a star!", referring to my fuzzy black sweater with white stars. I replied "Thank you, I know I'm a star!"

Before Scher & Millman went on stage they autographed my agenda:
